35 Yea, I know that God will give liberally to him that asketh. Yea, my God will give me, if I ask not amiss; therefore I will lift up my voice unto thee; yea, I will cry unto thee, my God, the rock of my righteousness. Behold, my voice shall forever ascend up unto thee, my rock and mine everlasting God. Amen.
This week I was touched by 2 Nephi Chapter 4. In this chapter, Nephi describes his father Lehi talking to his children and saying the last things he needs to tell them right before he dies. Immediately after his father’s death, Nephi writes about how great and loving and powerful God is. Verse 35 is at the end of Nephi’s testimony and he says that the Lord will give liberally to those who ask of him and put their trust in him.
I love the example Nephi sets in times of grief or sadness to turn to the Lord and rejoice in him. It talks about trusting God and praying deeply. It is another gospel “basic” so to speak. God will help those who ask for help if we put our faith in him.
I love the thought that God will not deny us blessings or guidance when we have faith in him. It’s a comforting thought, especially when we do not get the answers we expect or want from our prayers. It’s not that God wants to withhold things from us, it’s just that he knows a better way or we haven’t asked the right questions yet. It’s also easy to get lost in shallow prayers, but I love the way Nephi writes about his testimony of God and prayer. He writes about it like it’s keeping him from drowning. It’s a strong reminder that our relationship with God is more than the small things, it’s our whole lives and salvation.

I feel so lucky that Ashley was assigned (assigned herself? She’s the Relief Society President) to minister to me. She has been so welcoming and kind to me and everyone she sees. I feel like she is a true friend to me. I love talking to her and always leave her feeling loved and happy. I hope my photograph this week captured the joy, friendliness, and grace she carries!
